“Free Öcalan Global Days” Set for October 1-10, 2024 in 20 Countries
The Campaign for the Freedom of Abdullah Öcalan: A Political Solution to the Kurdish Question is pleased to announce the “Free Öcalan Global Days” to be held from October 1-10, 2024. This initiative marks the one year anniversary of our campaign, which was launched on October 10, 2023 in Strasbourg, France.
During the “Free Öcalan Global Days” we will organize a series of events in more than 20 countries (Austria, Slovenia, Greece, United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Cyprus, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Belgium, Netherlands, France, South Africa, Indonesia, Colombia). Including press conferences, seminars and public discussions to promote dialogue and raise awareness. We encourage media representatives to participate, report and amplify the voices of those working for justice and reconciliation.
As we reflect on the past year, we acknowledge the significant progress made in raising awareness of the plight of Abdullah Öcalan, who has endured more than three and a half years of inhumane isolation by the Turkish state. Our campaign has successfully built a broad international network of support, including legal experts, political figures, and human rights defenders committed to Öcalan’s rights and the broader Kurdish issue.
The “Free Öcalan Global Days” provide an important opportunity for the media to engage with this pressing issue. We invite journalists, editors and media professionals to cover the following key issues:
– Highlight the continued isolation of Abdullah Öcalan and human rights abuses in Turkey and beyond.
– Report on the unprecedented engagement of the international community, including a recent letter signed by 69 Nobel Laureates calling for Öcalan’s release.
– Explore how Öcalan’s ideas can serve as a blueprint for peace and democracy in the Middle East, and the role of cultural events in promoting these ideals.
This campaign is not just about one individual, but about the broader struggle for human rights, democracy, and peace in the region. We believe that increased media coverage can play a pivotal role in breaking the silence surrounding Abdullah Öcalan and the Kurdish question.

As we approach the one-year anniversary of our campaign for Abdullah Öcalan, we reflect back on all we have accomplished and ask everyone to redouble their efforts to finally break through his isolation. Each day brings us closer! ☀️🕊️
Hold rallies, protests, seminars, info tables, book readings, art shows, concerts, and press conferences, etc. Then send us the photos & videos.
The anniversary of our campaign “Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan – a political solution for the Kurdish Question” will be marked by ten days of activities by supporters across the globe. We will use this page to report on those activities.

To mark the anniversary of Öcalan’s expulsion from Syria on 9 October 1998 – the first step in the international conspiracy that led to his abduction – the International Solidarity Network is preparing a hashtag campaign for the evening of 8 October, at 19:00 European time and 20:00 Kurdistan time.
