Decision in Support of the Kurdish People and for Öcalan’s Freedom

As the 7th Congress of Intersindical Valenciana, we join the international call for Abdullah Öcalan’s freedom and a democratic and just solution to the ‘Kurdish Question.’

Öcalan, who has dedicated his life to the Kurdish people’s struggle for freedom and the rights of oppressed peoples, continues to be a fundamental voice for peace and coexistence in the Middle East. Despite decades of isolation and repression, he has always defended dialogue, popular organization, women’s liberation, and a social model based on local democracy, ecology, and social justice.

His imprisonment and the persecution of the Kurdish movement are part of an authoritarian policy that denies national, trade union, and social rights. Nevertheless, we believe that a political and negotiated solution that recognizes the Kurdish people’s right to determine their own future and to live in freedom and peace is indispensable.

Furthermore, we condemn the silence and passivity of European institutions that look the other way while fundamental human rights are violated. Europe cannot be any more complicit in Turkey’s repression and attacks on the Kurdish movement and its democratic organizations.

We stand in solidarity with individuals and collectives from Kurdistan and around the world who continue to work for peace, equality, and freedom. Their example reminds us that the struggle of peoples is the same everywhere: against oppression, authoritarianism, and injustice.

In light of all this, we demand:

  1. The immediate release of Abdullah Öcalan and all Kurdish political prisoners.
  2. Recognition of the rights of the Kurdish people and a political and democratic solution to the problem.
  3. An end to repression and the cessation of Europe’s support for Turkey’s authoritarian policies.

In keeping with our tradition of unionism and solidarity, we reaffirm our commitment to the values of peace, freedom, and the dignity of peoples.

Freedom for Öcalan!
Freedom for the Kurdish people!
Long live international solidarity!
